Title of Blog

Thanks to Joel Spencer in Santiago, I have decided to take a shot at blogging. I do not expect anyone to follow this blog with the exception of Joel as I have now become a follower of his site. If anything it provides me with a means to put my thoughts out there whether or not they may interest anyone. Why Countryside in a Concrete Jungle?

I have just returned from a months vacation In South Africa, my native country, and was given just a few days notice to get my things in order and tranfer to Santo Domingo. No matter I have a family and a life established in Santiago. My wife being pregnant has a Gynae she trusts, a Pediatrician who has shown her worth during my daughters hospitilization some months back, not to mention that I have to take Michelle out of a School that we were very happy with and Michelle just loved to bits.

Well, all that does not mean a thing when politics of a company as big as Cirsa come into Play. Well back to the title. We moved to Sto Domingo and spent a week in a Hotel while trying our best to find somewhere to stay.

It was so depressing. Everytime we were shown an apartment, we could not help but think how much balls these Dominicans have and the cheek to ask the prices they were asking. One of the apratments would not even have been fit for a dog yet they casually asked for US$ 800 without even blinking an eye.

If it wasnt the state of the apartments, it was the noise of the city that put us off. We kept looking in the "GOOD" areas too. Then in my frustration one day, i comented on our badluck to one of the casino Directors here in the capital, Wilfredo, and he told me that where he stayed there was an apartment for rent that we were going to love. BUT it was a little out of the way.

Well, as fate would have it, we took a liking to it straight away as it was more like living in a House, no stairs, a little Garden for Michelle to play around in, in a closed neighbourhood very secure, right at the end of a Cul de Sac so no cars up and down all day. AND VERY QUIET. In Uruguay they call these places COUNTRYS. So that explains my title: Countryside in a concrete jungle.

I have about a 10 to 20min drive to work depending on the traffic but its a small price to pay for the comfort and safety we will have in our new apartment.

My wife and I believe that everything happens for a reason. Be it good or bad, there is always a good reason if one weighs all the options and thinks back on what a different desition would have meant.

We would not have found this great apartment had I not lost hope and expressed my disappointment to my fellow worker, Wilfredo.
